PRIVACY NOTICE
NERDA Coffee Roasters LLC is a coffee company in Chicago. We collect as little information as we can, and only what we need to operate and to get you your coffee. This notice explains what that is.
What we collect
When you buy from us, we collect your name, email address, shipping address, billing address, phone number if you choose to give it, and what you ordered.
Your payment is handled by Shopify, our checkout and payment provider. We never see or store your full card number.
If you sign up for news, at checkout or on our website, we collect your email address.
If you write to us, we collect your email address and whatever you put in your message.
Like every website, ours keeps basic technical records when you visit: your IP address, your browser type, the pages you opened. Our website host and Shopify collect this to keep the site and checkout running and secure, and to count visits.
We do not collect anything a privacy law would call sensitive.
Cookies and visit counts
Our website itself does not use advertising cookies or tracking pixels, and nothing that follows you to other websites.
Our checkout is run by Shopify, which uses cookies and similar tools that checkout needs to work: to keep your cart, process your payment, prevent fraud, and measure how checkout is used.
Our website host, Lovable, counts visits: how many people came, how long they stayed, where they arrived from, what kind of device they used, and which country the visit came from. We only see summaries, such as total visitors and device types.
What we do with it
We use your information to process and ship your order, send you order and shipping updates, handle returns and refunds, answer you when you write to us, prevent fraud, and keep the records that tax and accounting rules require.
If you signed up for news, we also use your email address to tell you when a new coffee arrives and, now and then, what we are up to.
We do not sell your information. We do not share it with advertisers.
Who else sees it
These companies, each because they run part of our business:
- Shopify: our online store, checkout, payments and order emails
- USPS, UPS and Pirate Ship: print shipping labels and deliver your order (your name and address)
- Lovable: hosts the website and counts visits
- GoDaddy and Microsoft: our domain and our email
- Google Fonts: delivers the typefaces you are reading. Your browser fetches the font files from Google, so Google receives your IP address when it does
If NERDA is ever sold or merged into another business, your information would move with it. We may also share information when the law requires it, for example to answer a valid legal request.
About Shopify
Shopify runs our checkout, so information you enter there is processed by Shopify, which may store it in other countries. Shopify may also use some of it under its own privacy policy, for example to run Shop Pay or to detect fraud across the stores it serves. For that use, Shopify is responsible. You can read Shopify's privacy policy at shopify.com/legal/privacy and make requests to Shopify directly at privacy.shopify.com.
How long we keep it
Order records we keep for as long as tax and accounting rules require. Your email address stays on our news list until you ask us to take it off.
Getting off the list
Every news email we send has an unsubscribe link at the bottom. You can also write to hello@nerdacoffee.com and ask. We will take you off.
Your rights
Write to hello@nerdacoffee.com and you can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. We will do it, except for order records we are required by law to keep. You do not need a reason, and there is no form to fill in.
Do Not Track
Some browsers send a "Do Not Track" signal. There is still no agreed standard for what a website should do with one, so we do not respond to them.
Children
This site is not for children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you are a parent and find your child's information with us, write to hello@nerdacoffee.com and we will delete it.
Changes
If we change this notice, we will post the new version here with a new date at the top.
